About

MOLLY GANLEY

From her childhood spent on the New Hampshire seacoast, music has always made up the fabric of Molly Ganley’s life. A lifelong singer, Molly performed in school choirs from preschool through twelfth grade, constantly participating in the latest local musical theatre productions and camps (Seacoast Repertory Theater, Prescott Park Arts Festival). Born into a musical family, she wrote her first song when she was 10, and has spent her life honing the art as her chief means of creative expression. In high school, she was awarded three consecutive full-year scholarships to study piano and guitar at Phillips Exeter Academy, and spent her senior year performing with the a cappella group In Essence

Molly left NH for NYC to study at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she served for three years as Music Director for the a cappella group The Columbia Metrotones. She wrote over 20 arrangements for the group during her tenure and performed alongside artists such as Vampire Weekend (Bernie Sanders rally, 2016) and MILCK (Lincoln Center, 2017). During school she also served as the Songleader of Alpha Omicron Pi, for which she composed the official chapter song, and played acoustic solo sets in the Morningside Heights area in her spare time. In 2021, Molly co-founded SIAN, a pop-rock band, acting as lead vocalist and guitarist and performing with the group throughout NYC.

Molly debuted as a solo artist and songwriter in 2022, when she began to perform and record her original songs in NYC. Working with Brooklyn-based producer Quinn Devlin, Molly created her first full-length studio album, Eldest Daughter (released March 2025). In the record, Molly’s indie-folk songwriting focuses on powerful storytelling through poetic lyricism and honest musical performances. Recorded entirely to tape, Molly’s raw vocals, complemented at times by drawling pedal steel, lilting strings, and effusive harmonies, communicate the pain, nostalgia, wonder and magic of growing up and finding your way in an unforgiving world. The record draws inspiration from artists such as Brandi Carlile, Maggie Rogers, Lucy Dacus, Lizzie McAlpine, and The Staves.

“Molly’s debut album is the very essence of modern folk, rich with relatable storytelling and a timeless sound. Each tale is emoted beautifully by her vocals, and her lyrics will stick with you.” - Graeme Smith, York Calling

“What distinguishes Eldest Daughter from many contemporary folk debuts is its comfort with complexity. Ganley doesn’t offer easy answers or Instagram-ready wisdom. Instead, she creates space for contradictions: wanting independence while craving connection, seeking answers while suspecting they don’t exist, honoring the past while refusing to be defined by it… Ganley’s voice [is] clear, unaffected, and remarkably expressive.” - C. Alexander, B-Side Guys

Currently based in NYC, Molly can be found regularly performing her music throughout the city, as well as contributing backups and vocal arrangements to studio records such as Jacqueline Hackett’s Pollyanna Cowgirl (2024) and Sweetbreads’ upcoming LP. A lifelong discoverer of music, she is currently learning to fiddle.
